Opening Meeting, 2011

What if?

What if … there is a place where 700 young people feel accepted and appreciated for who they are?
What if … these young people are challenged to be the best they can be?
What if … they are encouraged to go out into the world to share their talents?
What if … they are taught to fill the world with love?
What if … this is reality? Summer Stage 2011!

Summer Stage 2011 kicked off its 36th season last night with the opening meeting led by Founder and Executive Director Harry Dietzler.

All 700 participants were invited to attend to get pumped up about the season, meet the directors of each of the shows, learn more about the various programs offered during the summer, discover more about the history of the program, and learn the song, To Fill the World With Love.

To Fill the World With Love was the finale for the first Summer Stage show presented in 1976, The Magic of America, and has since become the theme song of Summer Stage. Music and lyrics were written by Leslie Bricusse for the movie, Goodbye, Mr. Chips. In a nutshell, the lyrics reinforce the idea of each of us to going out into the world to share our talents and love, while being true to ourselves during every stage of our lives.

Lyrics to To Fill the World With Love

In the morning of my life I shall look to the sunrise
At a moment in my life whten the world is new.
And the blessing I shall ask is that God will grant me:
To be brave and strong and true
And to fill the world with love my whole life through.

In the noontime of my life I shall look to the sunshine
At a moment in my life when the sky is blue.
And the blessing I shall ask will remain unchanging:
To be brave and strong and true
And to fill the world with love my whole life through.

In the evening of my life I shall look to the sunset
At a moment in my life when the night is due.
And the question I shall ask only I can answer:
“Was I brave and strong and true,
Did I fill the world with love my whole life through?”
