Head Back to First Grade with “Junie B. Jones, the Musical,” July 29-31 at Summer Stage

The popular book series by Barbara Park hits the stage in a colorful, funny and fast-paced musical.

July 16, 2015 – Drexel Hill, PA. Summer Stage hits the schoolyard when “Junie B. Jones, the Musical” arrives on stage on July 29, 30 and 31 at 10:30 a.m. and July 30 at 7:30 p.m. at the Upper Darby Performing Arts Center. Based on the popular book series by Barbara Park, audiences will enjoy this colorful, zany, fast-paced musical about new friends, new glasses, sugar cookies, the annual kickball tournament and other various first grade angst-ridden situations.

Tickets are affordably priced at $7-11 and can be purchased online at www.udpac.org or by calling the box office: 610.622.1189. Upper Darby Performing Arts Center is located in Drexel Hill at 601 N. Lansdowne Avenue, minutes from the Main Line and Center City. The show is approximately 60 minutes with no intermission. Parking is free and free babysitting is available for those who are too young to enjoy the show quietly.

Audience members will get the chance to sneak a peek into the “Top-Secret Personal Beeswax Journal” of the outspoken and lovable Junie B. Jones (Michaela Henry of Springfield) and will follow the sassy little diva on her adventures. Join the fun with Lucille, (Genevieve Bruce of Drexel Hill) Herb (Alan Oruska of Springfield) and Sheldon (John Parkinson of Clifton Heights). Everyone will have fun reading along with Junie B. as she writes down details of her journey through first grade.

Besides enjoying the show, young audience members are invited to come early to performances to participate in fun pre-show activities and stay after the show to meet cast members. “Junie B. Jones, the Musical” is ideal for ages four and up.

“The show represents that even if you don’t feel like you are special you are in many ways,” director Brian Walsh said. “You have to find the one thing that makes you special and while it may take a while, once you find it, you will finally know your place in the world,” he added.

For forty seasons Upper Darby Summer Stage has been empowering young people and entertaining families throughout the Philadelphia region. A recent winner of the Main Line Parent’s “Best Children Theatre” award, the program is also a five-time consecutive MyFoxPhilly HotList winner in the “Best Theatre” category from 2008-2012.
