An Exciting Season Ahead!
Upper Darby Summer Stage is proud to announce it’s exciting 41st season! The award-winning youth theater program has become the gold standard of youth theater programs throughout the United States. Since 1976 the Upper Darby Summer Stage program has been empowering young people and entertaining families in Delaware County, Main Line, and entire Philadelphia region.
All shows are presented at the Upper Darby Performing Arts Center and are affordably priced for every family member to enjoy. Tickets for the shows will go on sale in late May, 2016.
Announced with great anticipation at the recent Fill the World with Love Day fundraising event for Summer Stage families in need, the six Children’s Theater shows include musical revues and Junior versions of successful Broadway productions. The shows take place on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings at 10:30 am and on Thursday evenings at 7:30 pm. They are approximately 60 – 80 minutes long, with no intermission, and most are appropriate for children 4 and up.
Disney Princesses And Heroes
• July 6, 7, 8 – A musical revue that’s all things Disney! And who doesn’t like Disney?
Bye Bye Birdie, Jr • July 13, 14, 15 – This show will surely help you to Put on a Happy Face!
• July 20, 21, 22 – It’s Christmas in July at Upper Darby Summer Stage!
James And The Giant Peach, TYA
• July 27, 28, 29 – The Roald Dahl classic makes a giant entrance on the Summer Stage stage!
Disney’s Mulan, Jr.
• August 3, 4, 5 – This warrior princess can twirl a sword like no one else!
The Dinosaur Musical • August 10, 11, 12 – A jazzy, prehistoric musical comedy!
The Mainstage production, is a full-length Broadway style musical with full orchestra and featuring performers ages 16 – 28. The 2012 Broadway hit starred Matthew Broderick and Kelly O’Hara and features an unforgettable score by George and Ira Gershwin. Nice Work If You Can Get It is a good, old-fashioned musical set in the 1920s and filled with tap numbers, bootleggers, and hijinks galore! A few of the unforgettable songs include, “Someone to Watch Over Me,” ” ‘SWonderful, “Fascinating Rhythm,” “I’ve Got a Crush on You,” “Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off,” to name just a few. Performances take place on July 29, 30 and August 5, 6.
The large-scale musical will be directed by Upper Darby Summer Stage veteran, Brian Walsh, who directs regionally and who for several years has directed Children’s Theater performances at Summer Stage. Auditions for the production will take place in early June and actors, singers and dancers are encouraged to check into the UDPAC website and the UD Summer Stage social media sites for updates as the calendar gets closer to June.
