Tickets on sale for 41st season of Upper Darby Summer Stage, May 24th!

May 19, 2016 – Drexel Hill, PA – Upper Darby Performing Arts Center proudly presents the 41st season of Upper Darby Summer Stage. Tickets for the summer series of family musicals are on sale May 24th.

A cultural paradigm in Delaware County, Upper Darby Summer Stage has been empowering young people and entertaining families since 1976 and has become a summertime tradition for thousands of family members throughout the Philadelphia region.

The series of summer performances includes the Mainstage production and six one-hour Children’s Theater musicals. Performances begin on July 6 and end on August 12 and take place at Upper Darby Performing Arts Center, 601 North Lansdowne Avenue, Drexel Hill, PA. Tickets may be purchased online at www.udpac.org or by calling the box office at 610.622.1189.

The Mainstage production, Nice Work If You Can Get It, starred Matthew Broderick and Kelli O’Hara in the recent Broadway production and features a treasure trove of the Gershwin brother’s most beloved songs. Five performances will be presented 7:30pm on July 29 and 30, August 5 and 6, and a family matinee performance will take place on August 6 at 1:30pm. Tickets are $12 – $16.

Nice Work If You Can Get It is a high-stepping musical that recalls the golden age of American musicals, complete with extravagant dance numbers, glittering Broadway costumes and the glorious songs of the Gershwin’s including “But Not For Me,” “Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off,” “I’ve Got a Crush on You” and “Someone to Watch Over Me.” The Mainstage production represents the very best that Summer Stage offers and is on par with any professional musical theater production in the region. The full-length musical features an orchestra of professional musicians. Young adults, up to the age of 28, make up the cast and have the opportunity to work with professional artistic and technical teams. Nice Work If You Can Get It will appeal to all serious musical theatergoers because of the outstanding talent and production value. In addition to the Mainstage production, Upper Darby Summer Stage offers six hour-long children’s theater musicals including Disney Princesses & Heroes, Bye, Bye Birdie, Elf Jr., James and the Giant Peach, Jr., Disney’s Mulan, Jr. and The Dinosaur Musical. Performances begin on July 6 and run every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday through August 12. Specific dates and show times are posted online at www.udpac.org. All Children’s Theater shows are geared toward children four and up and are approximately 60 minutes long. Tickets are affordably priced at $7-$11. Ticket-holders are encouraged to come early to enjoy pre-show activities and stay after the show for autographs and photographs with cast members. Free babysitting is available for younger family members.

Upper Darby Summer Stage celebrates 41 seasons of introducing families from throughout the Philadelphia region to live musical theater. Summer Stage is a five time winner of Philadelphia’s Best Theatre Group on the Philly HOT LIST and has been recognized twice as the “The Best Children’s Theater” by Main Line Parent Magazine.

In the short span of six weeks Summer Stage presents 34 performances including the Children’s Theater and Mainstage performances, one-act performances, a Dance Troupe performance and Cabaret production. Summer Stage’s staff of over 100 professional directors, choreographers, costumers, and technicians is committed to providing excellent musical theater training and high-quality performances for families throughout the region.

Harry Dietzler, Founder and Executive Director, established the Summer Stage program in 1976 and has received the distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award at the Barrymore Awards for Excellence for his positive contribution to the regional Philadelphia theater community. “Every year the program continues to grow and reach more audience members. We can’t wait to see family members who have enjoyed Summer Stage performances over the years and welcome new audience members to this exciting season.
