Experience the timeless classic “A Year with Frog and Toad” at Upper Darby Summer Stage


DREXEL HILL, Pa., — (July 20, 2018) Arnold Lobel’s treasured characters will hop from the page to the stage at Upper Darby Summer Stage. “A Year with Frog and Toad TYA” is a whimsical show that follows two best friends—the joyful, popular Frog and the rather grumpy Toad as they experience the four seasons. With a jazzy, delightful score, adorable characters, and powerful lessons, this production is perfect for the entire family. Performances are August 1, 2, and 3 at 10:30 a.m. and on August 2 at 7:30 p.m. at the Upper Darby Performing Arts Center.

Tickets are affordably priced at $8-$12 and members of The Upper Darby Performing Arts Center save $1. Tickets may be purchased at udpac.org or by calling the box office at 610.622.1189. The Upper Darby Performing Arts Center is located at 601 N. Lansdowne Avenue, Drexel Hill, PA., minutes from the Main Line and Center City.

The show runs one hour with no intermission and is ideal for ages four and up. The theater offers free parking and free babysitting on site for the very young. Young audience members are encouraged to come early for a fun activity and to stay after the show for a meet-and-greet with the performers.

Nominated for a Tony Award for Best Musical, “A Year with Frog and Toad TYA” tells the story of Frog (Rain Diaz of Clifton Heights) and Toad (Asha Houston of Philadelphia) and their experiences through hibernation, swimming in the summer, and many other seasonal activities. Along the way, they encounter a comical “Snail with the Mail” (Caroline Borio of Plymouth Meeting) and a sweet turtle (Emma Speck of Drexel Hill). Though Frog and Toad are practically opposites, they always support each other and their strong friendship is powerful throughout the show.

Chris Monaco, the director of “A Year with Frog and Toad” is excited about the message of the show. Chris said, “‘Frog and Toad’ is all about learning to be comfortable in your own skin and building confidence in your own abilities. It’s such a beautiful story about the strength of friendship and community.”

The Upper Darby Performing Arts Center and Upper Darby Summer Stage are jointly sponsored by Upper Darby Township Mayor and Council and the Upper Darby School District Board of School Directors through the Department of Recreation and Leisure Services.
